戒為甘露道,放逸為死徑,不貪則不死,失道乃自喪。(4.1)
不放逸是不死路,放逸是死路,不放逸者不死,放逸者就像死了一樣。(2.1)21

etām viśeṣatām jñātvā hy apramādasya paṇḍitaḥ  |
apramādam pramudyeta nityam āryaḥ svagocaram  ||
智者守道勝,終不為迷醉,不貪致喜樂,從是得聖道。(4.2)
如是,已經清晰地知道不放逸的智者,他們在不放逸的境界歡樂,在聖者的境界歡樂。(2.2)22

apramattāḥ sātatikā nityam dṛḍhaparākramāḥ  |
spṛśanti dhīrā nirvāṇam yogakṣemam anuttaram  ||
恒思修善法,自守常堅固,智者求寂靜,吉祥無有上。(4.3)
智者精進地禪修,勇猛精進,他們獲得離繫而安穩的涅槃。(2.3)23

prajñāprāsādam āruhya tv aśokaḥ śokinīm prajām |

迷醉如自禁,能去之為賢,已昇智慧堂,去危乃獲安,智者觀愚人,譬如山與地。正念常興起,意靜易滅除,自制以法命,不犯善名稱。(4.4)
智者精進而不放逸,他已登上智慧的高峰而無憂,他觀察這些憂傷的群眾,如同站在高山上觀看地面的愚人。(2.8)28

utthānena apramādena saṃyamena damena ca  |
dvīpaṃ karoti medhāvī tam ogho na abhimardati  ||
發行不放逸,約己調伏心,能善作智燈,黑闇自破壞。(4.6)

apramādam tu medhāvī dhanam śreṣṭhī iva rakṣati  ||
止觀不散亂,如財主守藏,莫貪樂鬪諍,亦勿嗜欲樂。(4.11)
無知的愚人沉溺於放逸,智者保護不放逸如同他最珍貴的財寶。(2.6)26

莫貪樂鬪諍,亦勿嗜欲樂,思念不放逸,可以獲大安。(4.12)
不要沉溺於放逸與五欲歡樂,不放逸的禪修者獲得最大的安樂。(2.7)27

māra pramattam anveti siha vā mgamātkā //
不為時自恣,能制漏得盡。放逸魔得便,如師子搏鹿。(4.13)

sthānāni catvāri naraḥ pramatta āpadyate yaḥ paradārasevī   |
apuṇyalābham hy anikāmaśayyām nindām tṛtīyam narakam caturtham  ||
放逸有四事,好犯他人婦,初獄二尠福,毀三睡眠四。(4.14)
侵犯他人妻子的放逸者會有四種處境:遭遇惡報,睡不安穩,遭人譴責為三,下地獄為四。(22.4)309

A. apuṇyalābhaṃ ca gatiṃ ca pāpikāṃ bhītasya bhītābhir atha alpikāṃ ratim  |
nindāṃ ca paśyan nṛpateś ca daṇḍaṃ parasya dārāṇi vivarjayeta   ||
B. apuṇyalābhaś ca gatiś ca pāpikā bhītasya bhītābhir atha alpikā ratiḥ  |
rājā ca daṇḍaṃ gurukaṃ dadāti kāyasya bhedād narakeṣu paśyate  ||
無福利墮惡,畏而畏樂寡,王法加重罪,身死入地獄。(4.15)
遭遇惡報與墮入惡趣,(這樣的)男女處於恐懼,他們所得的樂趣其實很少,而且王法處以重刑,因此不應侵犯他人的妻子。(22.5)310

pratiyatyeva tat kuryād yaj jāneddhitam ātmana /
na śākaikacintābhir manda dhīra parākramet //
本情不自造,情知不自為,不慮邪徑路,愚者念力求。(4.16)

yat kṛtyaṃ tad apaviddham akṛtyam kriyate punaḥ  |
uddhatānāṃ pramattānāṃ teṣāṃ vardhanti āsravāḥ  |
āsravās teṣu vardhante ārāt te hy āsravakṣayāt  ||

拒絕該作的事,而從事不該作的事,這些傲慢而放逸的人,徒然增長煩惱。(21.3)292

yeṣāṃ tu susamārabdhā nityaṃ kāyagatā smṛtiḥ |
akṛtyaṃ te na kurvanti kṛtye sātatyakāriṇaḥ |
smṛtānāṃ samprajānānām astaṃgacchanti āsravāḥ ||

常精勤於身念住的人,該作的事努力去作,不該作的事不去從事,正念正知者斷盡煩惱。(21.4)293

na tāvatā dharmadharo yāvatā bahu bhāṣate  |
yas tv ihālpam api śrutvā dharmaṃ kāyena vai spṛśet  |
sa vai dharmadharo bhavati yo dharme na pramādyate  ||
所謂持法者,不必多誦習,若少有所聞,具足法身行。 (4.21)
所謂持法者不必言,即使只聽聞少法,能直觀正法,精勤依法而行的人,稱作持法人。(19.4)259

subahv apīha sahitaṃ bhāṣamāṇo na tat karo bhavati naraḥ pramattaḥ  |
gopaiva gāḥ saṃgaṇayan pareṣāṃ na bhāgavān śrāmaṇyārthasya bhavati  ||
雖誦習多義,放逸不從正,如牧數他牛,難獲沙門果。(4.22)
行善的人現世歡喜,死後歡喜,兩處歡喜,他歡喜「我所作的善」,更歡喜將進入善趣。(1.19)

alpam api cet sahitaṃ bhāṣamāṇo dharmasya bhavati hy anudharmacārī  |
rāgaṃ ca doṣaṃ ca tathaiva mohaṃ prahāya bhāgī śrāmaṇyārthasya bhavati  ||
若聞惡而忍,說行人讚嘆,消除貪瞋癡,彼獲沙門性。(4.23)
即使未誦習眾多經典,他依教奉行,具正智的解脫者斷除貪、瞋、癡,他於此世、他世不執著,他是沙門的一份子。(1.20)

apramādaṃ praśaṃsanti pramādo garhitaḥ sadā |
apramādena maghavān devānāṃ śreṣṭhatāṃ gataḥ  ||
讚歎不放逸,毀彼放逸人,恒獲人天報,最上為殊勝。(4.24)
摩伽(因陀羅)以不放逸而得成為天帝,不放逸被人讚揚,放逸被人訶責(2.10)30

apramādarato bhikṣuḥ pramāde bhayadarśakaḥ  |
durgād uddharate ātmānaṃ paṅkasanna iva kuñjaraḥ ||
苾芻懷謹慎,放逸多憂愆,如象拔淤泥,難救深海苦。(4.27)
樂於不放逸,守護自心,拔救自己離於不善的地方,就像把大象救出泥沼。(23.8)327

apramādarato bhikṣuḥ pramāde bhayadarśakaḥ  |
samyojanam aṇu sthūlaṃ dahann agnir iva gacchati  ||
苾芻懷謹慎,放逸多憂愆,結使深纏縛,如火焚枯薪。(4.29)
精進的比丘懼見放逸,他勇猛前進如熊熊烈火燒去大、小結縛。(2.11)31

apramādarato bhikṣuḥ pramāde bhayadarśakaḥ  |
abhavyaḥ parihāṇāya nirvāṇasyaiva so 'ntike  ||
苾芻懷謹慎,放逸多憂愆,煩惱若消除,能得涅槃樂。(4.32)
精進的比丘懼見放逸,他已臨近涅槃,必定不會退墮。(2.12)32

uttiṣṭhen na pramādyeta dharmaṃ sucaritaṃ caret |
dharmacārī sukhaṃ śete hy asmiṃl loke paratra ca ||
苾芻懷謹慎,持戒勿破壞,善守護自心,今世及後世。(4.38)
興起,不要放逸!勤修善法!依法奉行的人住於安樂,今世及後世。(13.2)168

ārabhadhva nikramadhva yujyadhva buddhaśāsane /
dhunidhva mtyuna sainya naḍāgāram iva kuñjara //
苾芻懷謹慎,放逸多憂愆,如象拔淤泥,難救深海苦。(4.26)
樂於不放逸,守護自心,拔救自己離於不善的地方,就像把大象救出泥沼。(23.8)327

yo hy asmin dharmavinaye tv apramatto bhaviyati /
prahāya jātisasāra duḥkhasyānta sa yāsyati //
依此毘尼法,不懷放逸行,消除生死輪,永得盡苦惱。(40)
精進的比丘懼見放逸,他已臨近涅槃,必定不會退墮。(32)
